I thoroughly enjoyed reading Emily’s story, a woman who is an orphan raised in a foster home, filled with anger that she cannot control. This is a result of her being molested as a child. As an adult she finds out she has inherited a home in Mississippi dating from the civil war era. She intends to sell the house using the money to live on while writing her first book. While staying in the small town in order to sign the papers and get everything settled, she finds a small diary of the lady who lived there during the civil war. She feels such an affinity with Lydia and the happenings of her life, that it completely changes hers. This is a most interesting book of Hope and love, romance, forgiveness and learning to let God be the center of all your decisions. Stephenia H. McGee is an excellent writer that will keep you turning the pages, looking forward to reading a novel based on another character in this one, the purchased slave of Lydia’s.
