Fire and Ice (Wild at Heart Book #3) by Mary Connealy

This is the final book in the Wild at Heart  series…….This is the tale of Bailey Wilde, oldest sister of the three, all of whom were bullied by their father into disguising themselves as men, and serving in the Civil War. After the war their father insists they keep up their pretense of being men (as woman cannot homestead) and homestead in the Idaho Territory in the year of 1866. He wants to honor his only son who was killed in the war by being the largest land holder and rancher in the country. The idea is to buy the land from his daughters when their five years of proving is up. Bailey’s  claim does not have sufficient grass to feed her cows, so she builds her cabin across the front of a canyon that has 5,000 acres of grassland. Gage Coulter owns the canyon but Bailey won’t let him pass on her land (because she has secretly put her cattle on it ) She guards it with her guns and she is an excellent shot. Gage has no other entrance into the canyon, but he simply must have this canyon to winter his cattle.   Gage finally figures out the truth about Miss Bailey Wilde, he continues to try to deal with her, but she refuses. When Gage shows her his plans to force another opening to the canyon, Bailey gives up. She knows she will have to find another place for her herd to graze. ….
After a long and lonely winter, being snowed in and with her sisters married and gone. Bailey is overjoyed to see Gage when he shows up.  She is shocked when he proposes marriage, in order to fool his mother, who is even now on her way to visit him. In her loneliness, she decides to marry Gage in exchange for the rights to the canyon and her homestead…. Interspersed with all the action, humor and suspense, we see a wonderful spiritual message that God is in control and cares about us.  A wonderful ending to a great series.  Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a copy of this book for the purpose of this review.       FIRE
