Leveraging Lincoln: A Civil War Novel (The Liberator Series Book 1) by Stephenia H. McGee

Standard

This is book one of a trilogy……A most interesting novel by Stephenia H. McGee  dealing with the civil war and the plot to kill president Lincoln.  The quotes at the beginnings of each chapter gives insights to the actual planning to abduct Lincoln. This was a part of history that most people do not know about. ……..The story starts with Annabelle Ross burying yet another soldier that has died in her care, this makes so many, she has almost lost count. Little food and medicines has taken it’s toll on everyone.   There’s been four years of war where people in the south have lost their homes, their way of life, and loved ones.  Annabelle Ross has turned her home into a hospital. Finding a note on this last dead soldier, she shows it to the remaining soldier and he says she must take it to a certain man. On the way to the encampment to deliver the note the soldier dies……this is the start to her being kidnapped and taken for a spy, then rescued by  one Matthew Daniel whose brother has been captured and made a prisoner of war.  He is willing to do anything to save his brother….. Annabelle’s step grandfather is forcing her to marry his son to gain control of the plantation. So Daniel thinks of a way to help her escape from this forced marriage.  Peggy who was Annabelle’s slave and mother figure since her mother died early in her life, is with Annabelle in her journey for propriety sake, which adds much to the story in a little humor. …Can she find a way to save the plantation and marry only for love as she promised her deceased father, can he help his brother escape prison?….. Can they help each other? ….Book two will take up where this one ends. Thanks for the honor to read and review this book.
