The Inheritance is an excellent historical novel. Lots of background and historical information are provided along the way. Phillips definitely did much research for this book. He has a gift of describing the people and the scenes. I loved reading about the Shetlands and Scotland. Loved reading about the ways and the thick brogue of the people that the Laid and the chief were trying to preserve. The plot revolves around the death of the Laid and who will inherit. There are two distant cousins, David Tulloch and Hardy Tulloch who have always been at odds with each other. Then an american is located that could be closer in line to the inheritance, a female. Loni Ford who also was unaware that the Shetlands even existed. Makes for a very interesting book……..L DID NOT LIKE THE ENDING….after reading over 400 pages and could not wait to see how all would turn out, it just ENDS. Of course it will be continued in book two……..Bethany House provided me with a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
