Samantha Eastman feels like she cannot live up to the expectations of her parents and others…..including the young banker who wants to marry her. Her parents are all for the union between them but Sam keeps  putting off making a final commitment to marrying him.  Because she doesn’t feel like she is in love with him. Sam is bored with life and feels like nothing exciting ever happens in this small town…… She notices the dog food, eggs in the chicken house and other things are missing each morning, so she lies in wait to catch the animal that is stealing…..but instead it is a skinny red haired boy. Each morning she is watching and finally he will speak to her and not run away. Her heart is totally captured by this orphan…..A train robbery happens and a man is wounded. Now there is some excitement over that. Sam wants to be in on the excitement and the investigation. She meets Heck Brady, the train master for the MK&T Railway,right away they both feel the attraction between them. On his part, he cannot afford to be attracted to her for it is his dream to go to seminary and become a pastor. Love has to wait. Sam feels like he would never notice her in that way because he would want a different sort of woman for his wife. …… Then another robbery, Heck keeps telling her she is not to involve herself, to let the investigator do it. Sam places herself in the middle of the action…..something fishy is going on…..then a murder. Sam cannot help herself, when the red haired boy becomes involved and his life is threatened……  There is mystery, murder,suspense and romance….. All of this makes for a most interesting read. The author gifted me this book to read and review. Thank you Lora Young.
